For non-contact detection of metallic targets at ranges generally under two inches. Inductive proximity sensors produce an alternating electro-magnetic sensing field. When a metal object comes into the sensing field, the movement through the field causes “eddy currents” to be induced in the object. This lowers the signal amplitude and causes a change at the sensor output.
Inductive Proximity Sensors are resistant to vibration.
Advantages of inductive proximity sensors are that they ignore anything BUT metal.
It is not sensitive to finish or color.

Inductive Proximity Sensors are also resistant to short circuits.
